How Korean Names Differ from Chinese Names

Korean names also put the surname first, but most Korean names are three syllables (one for surname, two for given name). Korean names can be written in Hangul (phonetic) or Hanja (Chinese characters). Unlike Chinese, where most surnames are one character, Korea has a small number of common surnames — Kim, Park, Lee, Choi, and Jeong cover most of the population.
